This year's Legislative Event will take place in two parts.

Legislative Day at the Capitol on February 21

You may choose which event(s) you would like to attend.

Preparation Webinar - Legislative Updates and Overview

To prepare for Legislative Day, MSHA will provide a free webinar on Monday, February 13, from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm CST to review the legislative process, learn how to speak with your legislator and current issues of concern.  You can earn .10 CEU for this event as well. Register for the webinar by noon on Friday, February 10.

Participants will gain understanding of the importance of grassroots advocacy and why it is important to advocate for the professions and the individuals that we serve. They will learn ways to advocate and what to expect when visiting legislators at the State Capitol and strategies for communicating with policy makers.

At the completion of this webinar participants will be able to identify two benefits of grassroots advocacy, list three strategies for grassroots involvement, identify one current issue impacting our state.

6:10 pm —6:20 pm           Review and discussion of MSHA legislative issues/initiatives
6:20 pm – 6:50 pm           Legislative process; Strategies for successful legislative visits
6:50 pm – 7:00 pm           Questions/Wrap up

Legislative Day, Februry 21, 2017

Please plan to join us for MSHA’s Annual Legislative Day on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Capitol East & West Alcoves on the 3rd floor in Jefferson City, Missouri. 

Participants will learn about current legislative issues impacting the field of speech pathology and audiology and receive updates on legislative topics within our state, connect with policy makers, and learn techniques to effectively communicate with legislators about issues impacting our professions.

At the completion of this webinar participants will be able to identiy two elected officials who may support our organizational causes, identify one legislative issue impacting our state and provide two strategies for communicating with legislators.

This event will offer .20 CEUs

Legislator Visits
Discussion of current topiucs impacting the profession

12:00 pm - 12:30 pm Working lunch with discussion of the morning's activities and Q&A
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm Debriefing in Alcove

Wrap-up of day's events
